Opera Queensland is excited to announce that one of Australia’s best-loved sopranos, Amelia Farrugia, will join the cast of Candide to sing the role of Cunegonde for which Rachelle Durkin had originally been contracted. Rachelle has asked to withdraw from the role as she is pregnant with her baby due in the Candide rehearsal period this June.

Guided by Artology and Opera Queensland, a team of 33 talented teenagers and 5 professionals have reinvented Frankenstein, Mary Shelley’s gothic novel into a daring new stage adventure, combining physical theatre, music, video and other art forms.

Today we welcomed our fantastic La bohème company to the OperaQ Studio. The team will rehearse for one month before the production makes its Brisbane debut on Saturday, 12 July at the Conservatorium Theatre in Brisbane.

Our intrepid Project Puccini team have spent the last two months travelling to eight regional centres throughout Queensland to search for local chorus members for our upcoming production of La bohème.
